If you could open your own store, what would it look like? What would you sell? Would your customers have a typical retail experience, or would you transport them to another world? New entrepreneurs would be wise to stop by Otherworlds in Edmonds, Washington for a truly original example of how to make a business something magical. Otherworlds is a new store specializing in steampunk, fantasy, science fiction, and classic horror. (Just imagine H.P. Lovecraft, Neil Gaiman, Jules Verne, and Nikola Tesla all sipping absinthe together from a Victorian tea set.) Otherworlds sells books, board games, steampunk hats and goggles, skull-shaped sugar cubes, earrings made from clock gears, Venus flytraps, retro art flasks, and endless other delightful things. For the month of August, you can even buy scalemail leather gloves made by Metal Artisan Studios. Owners Brynn and Ahren have poured their passion and creative talent into decorating the store. Should you come in to play games at the tables in the back, you'll find the perfect magical setting. The Otherworlds grand opening took place on June 30th. I hadn't seen the store since the beginning of June, Ahren and Brynn were running around through piles of sawdust, recruiting every friend and relative they had to paint furniture and walls.Yvette Endrijautzki and other artists from Nautilus Studios: Otherworlds and Seattle Browncoats have teamed up to sell Serenity merchandise in the store to raise money for various charities. Otherworlds also holds events at their store. Stop by at 7PM on August 18th for the Summer Shivers ghost story readings by the Seattle Storyteller's Guild. Show up in your best steampunk costume for a 10% discount. And follow Otherworlds on Facebook and Twitter.
